Dear Orkin Pest Control – No Thanks

Dear Orkin Pest Control

Dear Orkin Pest Control

Many people enjoy a snack while watching TV, so why do you insist on showing us a bug sandwich?

There is a scene in a recent Orkin commercial where a pest control tech says, ‘We know where bugs hide… what their favorite foods are (books, cardboard, clothes, and so on). Then the guy peels back some cardboard to reveal what looks like a large sheet of candy with brown dots, each with legs.

After having been totally grossed out by this commercial, I have memorized the intro, so I can quickly flip the channel before I am served a visual ‘bug smorgasbord. Every man, woman, and child knows what a roach looks like. DUH.

Dislike of Marketing Tone

Moreover, some find Orkin’s ad campaigns, which sometimes use humor or dramatization (e.g., termite jokes or bug complaints), to be in poor taste or not reflective of the seriousness of pest problems. Furthermore, some viewers find certain Orkin commercials, such as the “Orkin Pro” ad, which features exaggerated scenarios like using a tennis racket to kill mosquitoes, to be ridiculous and a waste of time.
