Internet Explorer is a Piece of Garbage

Internet Explorer is a Piece of Garbage

Internet Explorer (IE) has been widely criticized and labeled as “garbage” by many users, developers, and even Microsoft itself due to several key reasons:

  • Outdated and insecure: IE is considered obsolete and insecure compared to modern browsers. It lacks support for new web standards, making it vulnerable and incompatible with many websites.
  • Poor performance and user experience: IE was slow, resource-heavy, and often caused rendering issues on websites. Developers faced many challenges fixing IE-specific bugs and hacks, which hindered creativity and web design.
  • Lack of standards compliance: Microsoft deliberately ignored web standards in Internet Explorer (IE), causing websites to rely on IE-specific code and resulting in broken compatibility with other browsers. This fragmented the web experience and slowed innovation.
  • Microsoft’s shift to Edge: Microsoft discontinued Internet Explorer (IE) to focus on Edge, which was initially built on its engine but later switched to Chromium for improved performance and compatibility. IE is now only kept for legacy compatibility reasons.
  • Community and developer frustration: Many users and developers expressed relief and even joy when Internet Explorer (IE) was phased out, as it had caused numerous headaches. However, some legacy enterprise applications still depended on IE, complicating the transition.

In summary, Internet Explorer earned its negative reputation due to poor security, outdated technology, lack of standards support, and subpar performance. Microsoft and the web community have moved on to more modern browsers, such as Edge, Firefox, and Chrome, which offer better security, speed, and compatibility.
